Choose a foldable hamper when spare-space storage matters; consider a wheeled basket when moving laundry along a suitable floor route is the difficult part. First map the journey from where clothes collect to where they are washed. Wheels cannot solve stairs or a narrow doorway by themselves.
Follow the laundry route
Measure the doorway and the place where the basket normally stands. Look for thresholds, rugs and tight turns. If you must carry the basket for part of the journey, consider the filled weight and handles as well as the wheels.
A foldable hamper can be stored when empty, but it still occupies its full footprint during use. Check whether folding requires removing a frame or base and whether that routine is practical for you.
Compare access and cleaning
Check the opening size, lid movement and whether the interior can be cleaned according to the instructions. Do not assume a fabric hamper can be machine-washed or that a wheeled basket has a removable liner. Those are product-specific details.
Likewise, moisture-resistant wording is not a promise of waterproofing or odour prevention. Choose a location and routine suitable for the contents rather than relying on the basket to manage them.
Two formats, different questions
- Foldable: where does it go when empty, and how easy is reassembly?
- Wheeled: can it travel the actual route, and are wheel limits or locks specified?
- Either: can you access the bottom comfortably and manage the full load?
- Either: can the door, washing machine and nearby cupboards open freely?

If your laundry travels only a short distance, an existing basket may be enough. If floor movement is the main problem, verify the complete wheeled design rather than choosing on the word “mover” in a product name.
